Should People Get Married?

I got married, we lived together for 3 years, and now we're in the process of a divorce.

I didn't have a huge wedding, but it was really wonderful, everyone there seemed to enjoy the festivities. The relationship was nice for awhile, sometimes surreal... Then his true colors showed once I showed my devotion through the act of marriage.

There are some people you don't want to commit to... Wolves in sheep's clothing.
I learned a valuable lesson that all women should heed, beware of men with narcissistic personality disorder... know what to look for. Avoid being codependent. Be genuinely happy alone and with others.

Not having kids during a divorce is makes life so much easier. We still have to pay 800$ (we're each going to pay $400) and the paperwork is annoying.

It has me thinking, is marriage necessary? The only perk I've seen is tax breaks when you file jointly. If I died, he would dictate where the money went, but I can do that with a living will.

Marriage is kinda cute, kinda sappy, kinda Disney. You feel special for a day, and if you're smart, creative, and thrifty, you'll pay under $1000 for it. I don't regret the wedding. I don't regret the happy times. I became stronger through the storm.

I would say for those who don't know, go with the flow.

If you feel the need to have a wedding, it's ok. It's like a love fest you throw yourself but I'd wait like... 6 years being with the person before investing time, money, and energy.
